It's time to get
creative. This unit is all about combining
theory and
research to inform creative and original ideas.
We are beginning the unit with a look at the
conventions of other music magazines such as NME and Rwd. This will form the foundation of your own research and design process.
You are working towards
4 pages of a music magazine which should demonstrate significant improvements and developments from the college magazine that you produced at the beginning of the year.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style). Maximum four members to a group.
All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of FOUR images per candidate.This unit is worth 50% of the AS.
The Assessment Objectives for this unit are:
AO2 – 10%
• Apply knowledge and understanding to show how meanings are created when analyzing media products and evaluating their own practical work.
AO3 – 30%
• Demonstrate the ability to plan and construct media products using appropriate technical and creative skills.
AO4 – 10%
• Demonstrate the ability to undertake and apply appropriate research.Your first posts need to demonstrate what you have learned about magazine conventions. Try to use a multi-media approach which might include linking to powerpoints, uploading photographs and/or scanned work or links to sites that you have investigated. You can also link to podcasts which might record a discussion you have in your group. Mr Varghese has digital recorders you can use for this purpose. So get blogging! This blog will be used to your research and planning which accounts for 20% of the marks for this project. Using a blog like this also demonstrates your understanding of multi-media forms and also prepares you for the work. It might be something you use to demonstrate to a college or employer that you have developed media and communication skills.
